This is Bigardo, TORO

The Toro born Kiko Calvo travelled around the world working in wineries before returning home to make his artisan, small production "rebellious" wine from his great grandfather's vineyards. A very different TORO. Less oak, less extract, more freshness.

With his father in the vineyards and sister by his side Kiko is quickly becoming a Toro legend. He follows his way of doing things, nonconformist with no boundaries and an insatiable appetite to experiment and explore the limits of his great grandfathers' vineyards. He is pushing the boundaries of the region of Toro and has only just begun!

Ramiro and his brother Kike were cellar hands when Pago de Carrovejas was just beginning, under the watchful eye of their uncle who was chief winemaker. Since then their studies and experience with some of the Spain´s best winemakers has helped them amass incredible insight, knowledge and experience making wines along the Duero valley.

Today they are highly respected professionals and this is their own personal project from the winery they are building in their home town of Breto, just north of Toro.

Both wines are exceptional, different and full of character and we absolutely love them. Breto is 100% Toro while Ladano is a blend of Prieto Picudo and Juan Garcia, possibly the first of its kind!

This is Dominio de Carabo, D.O Rioja

Rioja is one of the world´s most loved wine regions, without doubt thanks to its lovely berry fruit, soft rounded tannins and an incredible ability to age well.

There is a revolution going on in the region, where young winemakers are focusing on the individuality of villages and individual plots rather than just focusing on time in oak to define character.

Gonzalo and his young team are one of the new comers to the scene despite having grown up in and around traditional winemaker, they are now pushing boundaries to create a new future and direction for Rioja, all based on the individuality of each unique terroir like Burgundy.

They are also experimenting with different vessels for fermentation using cement, wood and other new materials in several different shapes and sizes, giving way to interesting out of the box wines that still manage to maintain the essence of what makes Rioja so loved!

It is incredible that there are still small plots of vineyard in Spain left to be discovered. Garcia de Lara, based in Toledo, is an inspiring project in which Miguel Garcia de Lara and his brothers and sister are slowly reviving their historic, century old family vineyards and winery while all their neighbors are uprooting their vineyards to plant other things.



Convinced by the quality of their inheritance and driven by a sense of responsibility, the Garcia de Lara new generation are doing everything they can to revive what was once a thriving wine region that supplied all the wine to the city of Madrid before modern Rioja and Ribera del Duero found their stride. 

In only 4 vintages they are proving themselves very right and have already been recognized as one of the top 100 best wines in the world by Decanter! Another unique find to discover!

Following 40 years of growing grapes, the Carpintero family decided to turn their amazing fruit into their own wines. In 2001 they began experimenting and after a few years they were convinced they have achieved the perfect quality. No expense has been spared to ensure maximum quality, their very clear goal.

Winemaker Adrian de Pablo leads the winemaking and viticulture team with the goal of making varietal driven wines that over deliver.



They are pioneers in planting international grapes such as Viognier, Malbec (!!), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay, all of which have perfectly adapted to this region´s hot, arid climate. Hi-tech drip irrigation ensure vine stress is carefully monitored and harvest is done at night to ensure freshness. The result is a delicious range of varietal wines with wonderful character and all the ripeness of sunny central Spain. 

This is Leyenda del Paramo, CASTILLA Y LEON

After years of creating Leon´s benchmark, winemaker Pedro Mittelbrunn threw caution to the wind to follow his dream to «help revive» Leon´s local grapes, Prieto Picudo and Albarin and thus was born Leyenda del Paramo.

He convinced the region´s best farmers to partner with him in the winery in addition to buying up specific plots to re plant with Albarin, the region´s white varietal and Prieto Picudo, the region´s big flavoured superstar red varietal. This relatively new project is most definately up and coming and offers the world of wine something quite different and very delicious.



This brave pioneer of modern Prieto Picudo is also a leading light in sustainable wineries applying all possible renewable energies in the winery and moving all the 73 hectares to organic certification. We just LOVE Prieto Picudo and are determined to share it with the world!

This is El Lomo, CANARY ISLANDS

EL Lomo all began when Don Felix Rodriguez´s fortunes changed, and he was able to return from Venezuela where he had emigrated to from his native La Gomera in the Canary Islands. On his return, he began planting vineyards in areas previously used for bananas and with amazing results.

Today, his daughter Clara and granddaughter Ana make up a formidable team to ensure the island thrives by making interesting wines from almost extinct local grapes. Low yirleding vineyards planted at 600m just a few kilometres from the open sea create unique conditions, almost like Napa Valley. Here varietals such as Listan Negro and Listan Blanco are just beginning to show their true potential as seen in the very first Vino de Parcela from the Canary Islands.

Founded in 1956, this historic winery is a point of reference for Rioja. The co-op currently own 1000 hectares of superb vineyards in the region of Rioja Oriental where the sun shines more and rainfall is lower, producing riper luscious wines that explain why everyone loves Rioja. The winery has access to stunning plots of vineyards from all over this interesting sub region, whose grapes have formed part of some of the best wines in Rioja for generations.

This is Mataredonda, TORO

Founded in 1998 when Juan Angel bought 18 hectares of amazing pre phylloxera ancient vines in the prestigious sub region of Toro, El Pego. Driven by his love and belief in the quality of Toro, he built a stunning winery equipped with the best technology to ensure he could bring out the best of these incredible small yielding vineyards.

2001 saw the launch of the first wine, Libranza, followed by a lesser oaked Juan Rojo, both created with each vineyard in mind. The family of wines was later completed with the launch of a younger, fresher version, Valdefama, made from the slightly younger vines with less oak and finally with the release of Libranza 28, an exceptional wine made with from the oldest single vineyard that really does position the winery amongst the best in the region.

A long list of awards and recognition are the result of a job well done. Exceptional vineyards, talented winemaking and necessary investment in quality barrels.

Martin Padin, born and bred in Galicia into a historic grape growing family, trained as a winemaker and has since spread his wings to several regions in Spain gaining experience and in depth knowledge of the different terroirs around Spain. His vision, passion and knowledge together with his out of the box thinking has gained him the respect of the winemaking community in Spain. He has recently begun is own project under the Pekado Mortal label and is generating excitement wherever he goes. Pekado Mortal´s philosophy is all about unique terroirs and bringing them to the forefront.

This is what happens when Carlos and Maria get together. This powerful husband and wife team have pulled all their knowledge and resources together to produce pure magic.

Carlos has looked after his family vineyards in Cigales since he was knee high to a grasshopper and Maria has had an illustrious winemaking career in neighboring region of Ribera del Duero.



After so many years of selling grapes and making wine else where it was time to make their own, in the historic yet still relatively unknown region of Cigales where old vines of Tempranillo produce stunning fruit. Traslanzas is the name of their oldest vineyard and results are simply stunning.

Bobal is the on-trend grape right now thanks, in part, to Felix and his family. Vera de Estenas is a stunning estate in the region of Utiel-Requena dating back to 1998. Back then Bobal was considered a rude and rustic grape that was only good for adding structure to the wines of other regions. Felix thought differently and set about proving to the world that Bobal could indeed make world class wines. He has achieved just that and has even gained the merited Vino de Pago status! Add the local white varietal Tardana to the mix and the range is super interesting. Not only are his wines benchmark for the region but are widely considered amongst the best in Spain.

Grape growers since time begin, this large and wonderful family with roots deeply ingrained in Ribera del Duero, in the village of Nava de Roa have recently reunited 3 generations to convert their grape growing business into a fully fledged winery.

Together with local female winemaker and long time family friend, they are the new kids on the block in Ribera and already have the attention of the world´s press.



Not only do the family own a 250 year old underground cellar where they have been making their own wine for their consumption since the cellar was built, they also own 40 hectares of prime vineyard sites. The grapes have been sold to top producers in Ribera del Duero for generations until now. This multi generational team is bringing out the best of their best vineyards and this is just beginning. They will be launching single vineyard wines in the future.

Antonio Florencio, born in a little village near Seville, has travelled the world making wine in prestigious regions and for premium producers for several years before his love at first sight with a truck full of grapes inspired him to create his own limited production wine, Villa Iulia, a name taken from the roman name for his native village. He immediately knew that these grapes were special and convinced the farmer to sell him all his grapes for the next vintage. Working with stunning plots at a height of 700m with clay Sandy loam soils, his style is instinctive. He adapts to each vintage, to each parcel and to each curve ball that harvests normally present at the most unexpecting moment. A range of delicate and elegant wines that show just how much central Spain is changing.
