About Bodega Zurbal

Jose Antonio runs this boutique family winery from La Rioja Alta region of La Rioja. The 5th generation of grape growers has already joined Jose Antonio to continue family traditions. They own 30 hectares of prime vineyards passed down from generation to generation along with the knowledge of each and every parcel. The family have been supplying top quality grapes to the prestigious producers of Rioja since time began. It is now time for them to flee the nest and let the world enjoy their wines.

They are the first winery to have a vineyard CERTIFIED ORGANIC in Rioja. Given the climate in Rioja, this is not so easy as it may seem hence the small amount of organic wine produced in Rioja. This prime vineyard spot, called LA MESA, is located right at the top of the photo on the far right at over 600m, high altitude for Rioja Alta. It is surrounded by unattended land to isolate it from other vineyards. It sits with a majestic view of the Ebro valley and the sprawl of endless vineyards. This is pure vineyard heaven!

Briones is one of the most beautiful and important villages in La Rioja due to its location and soils. Located in the golden triangle of La Rioja Alta, Jose antonio´´s family have owned vineyards here for over 100 years.

The Ebro river flows through the valley creating a unique microclimate which creates the unique, unmistakable character of Rioja Alta, The family have made small quantities of wine to be sold to the local market, converting them into one of the region´s favourite local producers with the help of local superstar flying winemaker. Now they are ready to share with the world.
